Lately I’ve been opening up tubi on our tv more than Netflix, more than Prime Video (and our myriad subs under the Prime umbrella, like Max and Paramount), and more than Hulu (because I canceled it). I like the vibe of tubi, I *love* that there are a lot more older movies and that they stick around longer, and on top of that, it’s way easier to navigate, faster to search, and actually provides meaningful results and suggestions to me.

Tubi also seems to have a lot of werewolf (and monster movies in general) that I actually am interested in seeing. I don’t know why, but when I’m on the bigger streaming services I never see this many monster movies that I actually WANT to watch. Is it because there is just so many other movies and shows on the subscription sites? Or is Tubi actually better for genuine entertainment?
Yes, there are ads on tubi, but now there are ads on Netflix and Prime Video and our chosen sub-subscriptions, too. I’m actually at the point where I appreciate commercial “interruptions” because they serve as breaks, which my AuDHD brain sometimes prefers to just have built in. For some reason I like the ads on tubi (and roku) better, too. I think it’s because they often have more amateur-ish or pro-am commercials advertising local-ish businesses mixed in with bigger brand name type of ads. I also prefer these ad experiences to fast-forwarding through them on a DVR (I find micromanaging tv-watching more intrusive and un-relaxing than just watching the ads, which are fewer and farther between than you get via cable + DVR).
Anyway … I’m mostly just writing this post as a reminder to myself that there are a whole bunch of werewolf, vampire, and other entertaining monster movies freely available for fun popcorn time in bed on tubi. They’re easy to find, and you don’t have to sort through so many titles that are actually PPV or require an additional subscription.
Though I didn’t watch any werewolf movies today (I actually revisited the beginning of Panic Room, which has a young Kristen Stewart in it which I totally DID NOT remember, nor did I remember Dwight Yoakam being in it, but man … her presence forges a connection that is, like, less than six degrees of separation from a whole series of vampire+werewolf movies: TWILIGHT*, and watching little KStew pre-Twilight in Panic Room is a great demonstration of what a talent she is, and reminder how much talent was in ALL of those movies, whether you like them or not, between her & RPat & Anna Kendrick & Dakota Fanning) I fully intend to add some of these werewolf movie titles to our watchlist.
*More notes to self: rewatch the Twilight movies filtered through the lens of whether they are good werewolf movies. Yes, you can probably already tell I have a bias towards giving credit where credit is due when it comes to that franchise, regardless of how many questionable liberties Stephenie Meyer took with vampires (sparkly?!?) and werewolves (transformations not linked to moon phases?!?) and real actual places like Forks.
